Senior Engineer

In our location in Pune, we have following position opened for internal applications:

Senior Engineer in the department of Engineering – All Functions.

Job Tasks
Role Summary:
Serve as the primary technical interface for customers and internal project teams, leading the end-to-end development of mechanical systems to meet customer specifications, quality standards, cost targets, and project timelines.
1. Project & Customer Interface
• Act as the first point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders regarding mechanical system development.
• Manage complete project execution, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and specifications.
• Drive the development of mechanical design and display solutions in accordance with defined specifications.

2. System Integration & Development Leadership
• Lead and coordinate the development of mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with defined development processes.
• Oversee system integration and design maturity for mechanical components including surfaces, illumination, and display assemblies.

3. Planning, Budget & Cost Management
• Take ownership of project timelines, budgets, and design-driven costs for the mechanical system.
• Plan and manage work packages, ensuring proper synchronization across all design interfaces.
• Develop and maintain Level 2 project planning, aligned with Level 1 milestones, and coordinate interface milestones with cross-functional teams.
• Ensure timely deliverables as per agreed project schedules (Level 1 & Level 2).
• Monitor and control engineering costs, implementing corrective actions where necessary.

4. Design & Engineering Responsibility
• Ensure fulfillment of all mechanical system requirements and specifications.
• Perform and validate design feasibility and functionality, including:
o Tolerance analysis and GD&T
o FEA simulations
o Mold flow analysis
• Develop robust, feasible, and cost-optimized designs, considering:
o Crash, vibration, drop, and thermal shock requirements
o Structural and stress analysis using CAE/FEA tools (e.g., Ansys)
• Initiate and oversee prototype builds and validation testing.
• Review test results and define corrective and preventive actions.


5. Design Release & Documentation
• Create, maintain, and release 3D models and engineering drawings, including part history tracking.
• Define and release Design Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Participate in DFMEA and DFM workshops and lead the mechanical systems

6. Material & Cost Optimization
• Select cost-effective materials based on functional and environmental requirements.
• Ensure design decisions are aligned with cost, performance, and manufacturability goals.

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Support all development activities, including:
o Leading Cross-Functional Team (CFT) reviews
o Participating in System Design (SD) reviews
• Drive final optimization of components and sub-assemblies.

8. Supplier & Customer Coordination
• Collaborate with customers (OEMs/Tier-1) and suppliers on:
o Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
o Design for Assembly (DFA)
o Industrialization processes
• Ensure smooth communication and alignment across all stakeholders.
* Required Qualification
Experience
• Proven experience in handling at least 2 full product development projects, covering the complete Product Development Lifecycle as per APQP guidelines.• Strong experience in customer and supplier communication, including technical discussions and coordination.

Technical Skills
• Proficient in CAD tools (CATIA - 3D & 2D) for design and detailing.
• Basic working knowledge of CAE/FEA tools (ANSYS or equivalent) for simulation and validation.
Domain Expertise
• Strong competency in plastic part design and material selection based on functional and application requirements.
• Experience in automotive technologies, including:
o Mechatronics
o Illumination systems
o Display technologies
o Metal components for automotive applications
Product-Specific Experience
• Hands-on experience in the design and development of automotive rotary knobs and push buttons (e.g., Radio and HVAC panels).
• Expertise in:
o Haptic design
o Detent profile development for torque and tactile feedback requirements
Standards & Testing Knowledge
• Familiarity with automotive standards such as AIS, ECE, JIS, and other international regulations.
• Knowledge of lifecycle and validation testing, including:
o Endurance and durability testing
o Environmental testing
o Crash and safety requirements
Materials & Manufacturing Knowledge
• Strong understanding of material properties and behavior, including:
o Plastics, metals, and contact materials
o Additives and their effects
o Shrinkage, warpage, and tooling considerations
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and defects, especially in injection molding.
• Familiarity with surface technologies, such as:
o Painting and varnishing
o Laser engraving
o Galvanization
o Foil technology and IMD (In-Mold Decoration)
Engineering & Quality Processes
• Knowledge and practical exposure to:
o Requirement management and analysis
o FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
o Product and component validation testing
o Quality assurance processes
Electronics Integration
• Basic knowledge of:
o Electronics hardware
o Connectors and PCB technologies
o Spraying/coating processes related to electronic assemblies
Tools & Systems
• Basic experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems
• Basic knowledge of DOORS (requirements management tool)
Project & Process Management
• Strong understanding of the Product Development Process (PDP) from Gate 0 to Gate 6
• Familiarity with project phases, customer milestones, and deliverables
• Ability to lead projects independently, ensuring timely delivery and quality compliance
